Central Australia says ‘NO MORE’ to family and domestic violence

Stan Coombe and Roy Arbon are joining CatholicCare NT’s NO MORE campaign this week to work with sporting clubs in Alice Springs and surrounding regions in order to reduce family and domestic violence.

The campaign started in 2006 when NO MORE founder Charlie King discussed the issue of family and domestic violence with Elders from Central Australia. Since then, the campaign has grown to reach thousands of sporting people across Australia.

Stan Coombe and Roy Arbon’s standing in the football community and their past work in social development is the ideal coupling to help reduce family and domestic violence in Alice Springs and remote communities. Both men are CAFL life members and both have a strong history in community social development over their working lives.

NO MORE campaigner Charlie King welcomed the men to the campaign, “These two men bring a great wealth of experience and knowledge, and no doubt will have the ability to reach deep into clubs and communities across Australia.”

Their addition to the campaign is part of a wider strategy between NO MORE, CAFL and the NT Police to reduce family and domestic violence through the region. The men will work with members from these organisations to create Domestic Violence Action Plans with both town and community clubs, aimed at changing family violence perceptions and creating positive action among players and supporters.

These Domestic Violence Action Plans will hopefully be the change needed to reduce the high rates of family and domestic violence, both in Alice Springs and across the Northern Territory.
