Break the Cycle: Creating Change with Matt & Sarah Brown | NO MORE's 16 Days of Activism

As part of the global 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, NO MORE is proud to host Matt and Sarah Brown from She Is Not Your Rehab for a transformative keynote and workshop. Their revolutionary approach to addressing family violence and promoting healing in communities is empowering audiences worldwide, and now they’re bringing their powerful message to the Northern Territory. These events will build on the 20-year legacy of Dr. Charlie King, AM, who has worked tirelessly to engage men to break the cycle of violence in the Northern Territory.

Keynote: Break the Cycle

Matt and Sarah’s keynote focuses on breaking the cycle of intergenerational trauma through community and collective healing. With a passionate advocacy for healthy masculinity, they encourage men to overcome shame, take responsibility for their own healing, and become role models for positive change. Their message calls for a deep cultural shift, challenging harmful norms and fostering healthier, more empathetic relationships. The keynote is an unmissable opportunity to hear their compelling vision for a safer society, where everyone plays a role in breaking the cycle of violence.

  • Date: Tuesday 3 December  2024
  • Time: 7.00-8.30pm

Interactive Workshop: “How to do the work”

In addition to the keynote, Matt and Sarah will also host a trauma-informed interactive workshop for those working in family and sexual violence prevention, particularly with men. This small-group workshop is designed to deepen the skills of first responders, social workers, community leaders, health professionals, and anyone whose work touches the lives of those impacted by violence.

The workshop provides hands-on training, building self-awareness, empathy, and the courage needed to address the complexities of domestic violence. Participants will engage in Whakawhanaungatanga (relationship-building), interactive group work, and courageous conversations, as well as rethink strategies for working with perpetrators of violence.

  • Time: 9.00 – 1.30pm (including lunch)
  • Venue: Darwin International Tennis Centre, Abala Road, Marrara
  • Tickets: $330 – available here

Why This Matters Now

The global 16 Days of Activism runs from November 25 to December 10 each year, urging communities worldwide to unite and invest in ending gender-based violence. This year’s theme, UNITE! Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls, encourages both individuals and governments to take meaningful steps toward preventing violence. With Matt and Sarah’s expertise, this event offers a powerful platform for inspiring real change, not just in professional settings but in communities at large.

From both the keynote and workshop, participants will leave with a greater understanding of how to effect cultural shifts that promote safety, empathy, and healing in our society.

Join us in this important conversation and take action to end family violence. Together, we can break the cycle and create lasting change.
