Waratah and Buffaloes play for NO MORE Cup

MEDIA RELEASE FROM AFL NORTHERN TERRITORY
WARATAH AND BUFFALOES PLAY FOR ‘NO MORE CUP’

Following the unveiling of the sign at TIO Stadium by Catholic Care NT and the Chief Minister Adam Giles, the TIO NTFL Match between Waratah and Buffaloes at TIO Stadium on Saturday night will be for the ‘No More Cup,’ continuing to promote the anti-domestic violence message.

The No More Cup recognises the NTFL clubs commitment to take a club stance against family violence. Each year many thousands of Australian women are victims of violence in their families and the Northern Territory ranks highly in that regard with the most recent annual data revealing that almost 4,500 Territory women were abused in the year.

Waratah who won the ‘No More Cup’ against the Redtails in Alice Springs during Round One have nominated this round to put the Cup on the line against the Buffaloes to continue to reinforce the message.

“As holders of the NO MORE CUP we are extremely supportive of Women’s Round and the concept of no more domestic violence in the community,” said Waratah President Leigh Jennings.

“Footy is an important part of the fabric of our community and will continue play an crucial role in educating and delivering these messages.”

Catholic Care NT the drivers of the No More Campaign welcome the support of the Waratah and Buffaloes Football Clubs.

“We are asking Clubs to consider developing a Domestic Violence Action Plan that will help build a club culture that changes the attitude of men towards the unacceptable high rate of family violence.

Strengthening club culture in a way that promotes healthy relationships and non-violence sends an important message to women and girls that they are valued part of the Territory footy family” said No More to Family Violence Campaigner Charlie King.

“We support any effort that NTFL clubs make to reduce levels of family violence and I congratulate Waratah and Darwin for their stance tonight.”

CatholicCare NT can assist clubs with ideas, resources and links to other services to help build a plan that can be tailored to each club.
