Rotary Club of Darwin and NO MORE Campaign link up

The Rotary Club of Darwin and the NO MORE Campaign have joined forces to raise funds for Rotary’s Junior Sport foundation and the NO MORE Campaign which aims to reduce family violence.

Mini Golf and a Hole in One competition will take place over ten weeks at the Gardens Park Golf Links.

Following the ten week competition, weekly winners will have the chance to hit for a hole in one to win the $100,000 prize money.

Hugh Bradley of Rotary Club of Darwin is proud of the partnership and the opportunity to do something positive in the community.

“We often hear about all of the terrible things that happen in our community and we want this to be seen as a positive step forward in dealing with some serious issues.

“Corporates, individuals, sporting teams, anyone and everyone are invited to participate in the mini golf and hole in one competition; it’s the first event of its kind in Darwin and perhaps even Australia.

“We encourage families to come along and participate in the mini golf and they can even have a Friday night dinner with food and beverages available on the night. There will be some great prizes as well.

“We welcome any interest and look forward to as many locals taking part as possible,” said Bradley. 

NO MORE Campaign Founder Charlie King said he is looking forward to bringing together corporates, sporting clubs and tourists to raise money in support of two really great causes.

“This competition is a great way for people from all walks of life and backgrounds to come together and have a bit of fun while getting the opportunity to learn about the Junior Sport Foundation and the NO MORE Campaign.

“It’s not often that family violence comes up in everyday conversation so it’s important that we take the opportunity to raise awareness about how serious the issue is,” said King.

Chairman of Territory Proud Inc, Geoff Goodrich said Territory Proud was pleased to support the NO MORE Campaign as part of the partnership agreed to in and launched in December last year.

“We will be encouraging our members to enter teams in the mini golf competition and hope other businesses and social clubs will do the same,” said Goodrich.

“Territory proud and its members will be providing support and prizes for the ten weeks of the event.”

Reducing family violence and supporting activities for Darwin’s youth have been shown to reduce juvenile crime.

Role models from a number of different sporting codes will be in attendance during the ten week competition to speak to people about the two programs.

The ten week event will commence on 5 May with the final shoot out for the $100,000 prize held on 14 July.

All proceeds from the event will be shared between the Junior Sports Foundation and the NO MORE Campaign.
