NT Titans show their strength
NT Titans are the first Northern Territory representative sport side to write a domestic violence action plan.
The rugby league representative side is due to head to Adelaide to compete in the Combined Affiliated States Championships on 9 June. Even with the big task ahead vying for the top spot in the CAS Championships, the Titans took the time to focus their attention on an issue that plagues Australia, family violence.
NO MORE Campaign Founder, Charlie King, is pleased to see the first Territory representative side take a strong stand against family violence.
“We congratulate the NT Titans on being the first representative side to have a domestic violence action plan. It sends a strong message to those players coming through the ranks, that to be a part of this team, you must do your bit to reduce family violence,” King said.
Titans head coach Moses Wignes wanted his team to be real leaders for their community and take a strong stand against family violence.
“As a coach I acknowledge the importance sport has within our Australian culture, and the importance of role modelling good behaviour through sport. As a sporting team, we have a responsibility to lead by example.
“I encourage and help all of my players become the best people they can be in preventing family violence and caring for their families. The time has come for us to end family violence,” said Wignes.
Nigel Roy, NRL NT General Manager was proud to support the NO MORE Campaign.
“The NT Titans are committed to standing up against domestic violence. As representatives of our sport, it is imperative that we set an example worth following not only in terms of each individual’s own behaviour, but by increasing awareness and supporting initiatives to reduce domestic violence in all its forms.
“We are proud to support the NO MORE campaign so that everybody is able to live in a family environment free from violence,” said Roy.
The Titans will launch their Domestic Violence Action Plan on Friday 3 June at 6.00pm at Warren Park.
