Maningrida says NO MORE
The NO MORE launch in Maningrida took place on 14 March 2016. There were a number of services and stakeholders that worked collaboratively in the lead up to the launch with great support and enthusiasm from the community.
Maningrida College did a fantastic job incorporating the NO MORE message into school studies in the weeks leading up to launch, and were the driving force in the success of the launch & march, particularly the excellent banners that were made up by the students. Likewise, the RSAS yellow shirt team support.
Mums at the Maningrida Child and Family centre did a great job also hosting Charlie King, Police and AFLNT for a morning tea where many local mums were spoken to by Charlie about the NO MORE family violence message.
Community members have since spoken positively about the march, highlighting that there has never before been a public march and talk about family violence in Maningrida. Despite heavy storms and rain on the day, the students from the local school lead by several traditional owners, marched through the streets chanting 'NO MORE family violence.' This sent a very strong meesage to all the families watching from their houses and front yards.
The NO MORE launch has generated a lot of positive discussion about family violence within the community. Other local agencies such as health clinic staff, shire staff, police and AFLNT were in attendance. NO MORE information sheets, water bottles and pins were distributed to reinforce the NO MORE messages.
Department of Corrections Family Violence Program dates were chosen to follow the NO MORE launch, as part of a more collaborative approach to tackling tamily violence.
