THE STAND starts today. What part will you play?

Today marks the beginning of THE STAND 2026: 90 days of action to prevent domestic and family violence.

Over the next 90 days, we are calling on sporting clubs, businesses, workplaces, community groups, councils, schools, services and organisations across the Northern Territory and beyond to take action.

At the heart of the campaign is our goal: 90 Domestic Violence Action Plans in 90 days.

A Domestic Violence Action Plan (or DVAP) is a practical commitment to help prevent domestic and family violence. It gives your organisation a clear way to turn good intentions into meaningful action.

Your actions might include educating staff, improving workplace policies, promoting respectful relationships, supporting a local NO MORE Round or finding new ways to start conversations in your community.

A DVAP does not need to be complicated. It needs to reflect your people, your organisation and what you can realistically do.

A new way to create your DVAP

This year, we have made the process easier with the launch of our new DVAP Builder.

The online Builder guides you through the process, helps you choose practical actions and creates a plan that suits your organisation. We still have templates and resources available, or you can create your own format, but our online builder can help to make it easier for you to take action.

You can:

START
Create your first DVAP and decide what your organisation will do.

STRENGTHEN
Review an existing DVAP, build on what worked, finish what you started or add something new.

SHOW
Share your actions, involve others and help show that preventing domestic and family violence is something all of us can play a part in.

Recognising our changemakers

Today also marks the opening of nominations for the inaugural Charlie King Changemaker Awards.

The awards recognise individuals and organisations taking meaningful action to prevent domestic and family violence.

They might be leading change in a sporting club, improving the way a workplace responds, bringing people together or quietly doing important work in their community.

If someone’s actions deserve to be seen and celebrated, we want to hear about them.

Nominations close on 3 November 2026, with regional recipients to be announced during the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.

Nhulunbuy organisations are ready to take action

THE STAND is already building momentum in East Arnhem.

Today, we are also announcing seven activities supported through the 2026 Nhulunbuy DVAP Grants.

Across Nhulunbuy, Yirrkala and the Laynhapuy Homelands, local organisations will use sport, culture, healing, storytelling, education and community connection to help prevent domestic and family violence.

Each activity reflects the organisation’s own DVAP and the community it works with — showing exactly what it means to turn a commitment into action.

MEET THE GRANT RECIPIENTS

Last year showed what is possible

In 2025, the Territory answered the call.

Our goal was 90 DVAPs in 90 days. By the end of the campaign, 107 plans had been created, containing more than 600 actions.

Those plans came from sporting clubs, businesses, Aboriginal organisations, community groups and services across Darwin, Palmerston, Katherine, Tennant Creek, Alice Springs, the Tiwi Islands, Wadeye, Maningrida and beyond.

More importantly, people followed through.

NTRL named its finals series THE STAND. DABSCO became our first business DVAP. NAWIC NT offered DV-Alert training. Aussie Pooch collected donations to help victim-survivors needing safe accommodation for their pets. TrafficWerx donated traffic management for the Tennant Creek march. The Wadeye Men’s Shed brought men together for an On Country wellness camp.

Every plan was different. Every action contributed to change.

Take THE STAND

THE STAND runs from 26 August to 24 November 2026.

You can create a plan. Strengthen an existing one. Nominate someone making a difference. Share what your organisation is doing. Encourage another group to become involved.

Last year showed us what can happen when people decide to do something.

Every action, no matter how big or small, is part of the change we want to see.

Find the part you can play — and take THE STAND.
